HELP! RTB Mites :| + Pictures.

Well, I had thought my RTB's mites were gone after using PAM on her enclosure.. and completely soaking her for quite some time, I was handling her today. and saw one scatter across her head. Ive only seen them on her head which was odd.. until I went to take pictures of her today, I noticed.. where they were.
The mites are IN her eye, around it. in the crevices. I have no idea what to do.. call a vet? cause im not sure if theres one's even in my area :| Ughhh..

Hi,

Did you repeat the PAM after the 30 day period? ( I think thats what the can says? )

Did you also treat every other reptile tank? They leave the snake to lay eggs then when the new batch hatch out you can get re-infected.

I mean, spraying the cage, isnt going to get mites Out of her eye.. there in the skin thats around the entire eye. :| so worried.. tking her to an animal hospital tomorrow..

Theres another kind of mite spray thats safe to spray on your actual animal, can't remember the name of it, it should kill the ones on her, and from what I've been told you can scrap out the dead mites from her eyes with something like a credit card.

I've never had to deal with mites yet so this isn't from personal experience but experience from a friend of mine.

You could try giving her a soak in warm water with a spot of dishsoap in it - that breaks the surface tension and means the mites should drown.

:O that sounds like it would be very painful.

Try soaking him in a tub with water for a while. Mites drown easily under water ;-) It worked on me before! Just make sure the water is nice and warm and that the snake doesn't drown along with the mites @_@ ( I must say though, boas can hold their breath under water for quite a long time! ) Don't forget to towel dry so it's not soaking wet when you put it back! She could get an RI @_@

You need to just follow the Provent-a-mite instructions, the mites only stay on the snake really to feed then drop to lay eggs, they will hand out in the eye folds and feed there, however when they drop to lay their eggs the PAM will kill them, if you just keep using it as instructed within a month or two you will be mite free, also i would consider wiping down the exterior rim of your snake cage or stand so that the mites cannot leave the cage without being poisoned. Just keep up with the PAM as directed and it will work, trust me. And regular baths will help flush any excess mites that are bothering your snake in the meantime.

The only thing I have ever had success with is using no-pest strips. It is easiest to do in an aquarium. First thing you do is TAKE THE WATER OUT. You will need to leave out the water and soak the snake daily or every other day while you are treating.

You place an appropriate size piece on top of the screen, cover the screen with a towel. Keep it on for one week and remove, put water back in for one week. Then take out water and put the strip back on for one more week. After that you should be mite free (unless they have moved to your other snakes!, hopefully not).
