Spider With Attitude

ok so i got this lil spider girl that was born in July of this year and she has really just been a big pain she eats fine and everything but she is just so snappy is this part of her hatchling mentality or is she still not 100% settled in? she hasnt tagged me yet but she is gettin closer closer each day and honestly she could tag me 500 times and i still wouldnt get rid of her she is beautiful well if anyone knows an answer to my problem itd be greatly appreciated thanks

Well how long have you had her? She might still need time to settle in, or she might be one of the stubborn ones that take longer to get used to handling.

If you've had her that long I'd say she's just stubborn to accept you handling her. Just keep taking her out for a little every day that you can (barring feeding day and the two days after) and she'll calm down eventually. Don't worry about being tagged, it doesn't even hurt lol, just don't pull away if she does tag you.

Just over a month doesn't seem all that long for a snake to get used to you handling it considering you are supposed to leave it alone for the first week to settle in anyway.

Or am I misreading that date?

Neonates can be nippy. Give the snake some time. Keep feeding regularly, every 5-7 days. What size mouse/rat are you feeding? The snake could just be hungry, or it could be a nipper. Either way, have fun with the snake. If you were to be biten, it's not going to hurt. You're going to be more afraid of the strike than you are of the bite.

I'd recommend frequent but brief interaction with her(every few days or so). Short handling sessions over time will build trust. Once she can indentify you and trusts you will not hurt/eat her your handling sessions will be much more pleasant.

And as J. H. Smith said keep her regularly fed every 5-7 days

Dr Del- i guess u are right she still does hasnt been around long it just seems like she has been with me for a long time maybe she is still warming up to me.

J_H_Smith- I am Feeding her regular sized mice from Petco its the only place that is close to my house until this breeder i know get his rats up and running and gets good numbers ill start buying from him

Agent73-1st congrats on BPOM! i voted for u! 2nd i guess its just the fact that she is still young that its take her longer to cozy up to me the pastel i got at the same time is about a month or 2 older than her and he just loves to be handled still shy around the head but thats normal with all BPs except my Cinny

I have a mojave female that was just like that. I stopped caring if I got bit or not and now I just reach in and pick her up...and she doesn't strike at me anymore. She gives me MAJOR stink eye...(if snakes can do that)...but doesn't strike.
