Quarantining a CB hatchling from a well-reputed breeder?
Earlier this year I bought a captive-bred axanthic ball python from a well-reputed breeder, and asked I him to hang onto her for an extra week so I could clear out my quarantine area before she arrives. He was surprised (and maybe a little insulted?) that I would bother quarantining a CB hatchling, and took the proverbial :grabbed: out of me for the rest of the phone conversation.
Of course I laughed along and admitted I was totally neurotic about IBD. And then went and PAM-ed the quarantine tank for good measure.
(I bet you didn't know we had that smiley? No, you didn't.)

Well I guess some people would be offended
I can tell you that no matter who I get a snake from, from well known breeders to friends all the snakes are quarantined for 60 days and I expect people I sell to or do loan with to do the same.
It's nothing personal it's just the way I do it, every incoming snake goes in QT and get the PAM treatment NO EXCEPTION ;)

Basically, that's why I broke out the PAM at the end of that phone call. Not that the snake had any problems! But still.
I left her in QT for an extra month, too.

I haven't brought in new animals in over a year. Brought home feeder insects and bedding from a show, and all of a sudden, I have mites. The bedding was from a very well known breeder, and the feeders were from a well known local source. Needless to say, I'm rather frustrated, and think you should never waver from your quarantine regimen.
