hi im new and I have a few questions
Hi I'm Danny :)
I have 2 ball pythons and I have them in tanks but am putting them into tubs and after i get more into a rack. I've been searching through alot of sites and i really like the boaphile racks and thermostats.
i have a question about the thermostat though. I want to get the double thermostat. Can I use ONE of these for TWO or more individual set ups? It comes with that power bar so I'm supposing so but I could be wrong. It has the room for 6 plug-ins but only 2 probes so I'm wondering if I could only monitor 2 set ups. Could somebody explain this to me?
Also, i have a question regarding leopard geckos. My friend breeds them and has a bunch of tanks. I've seen vids on youtube with people who house them in racks. Don't they require UVA/UVB? how can they house leopard geckos in racks without them?

also, here is the site; http://www.boaphileplastics.com/thermostat.html
I'm looking at the double thermostat.
Also along with the 5 and 6 slot racks eventually
Re: hi im new and I have a few questions
Hello, and :welcome: to BP.net
It will be easier for me to explain the single thermostat. Since you want to run 2 separate tubs on one thermostat, the way you should do it to maintain consistent temps in both is to use the same size tubs with identical heat sources. Some people use Under Tank Heaters(UTH) and some use Flexwatt heat tape. Whichever you choose, set the tubs up the same. The thermostat probe will be mounted to one heater, but both will be plugged into the thermostat. So basically, the thermostat is sensing the temp of one heater, but both are switched on/off.
With that double t-stat set up they are wired together so one acts as a back up so both probes have to go to the same heater. I would suggest starting out with a single thermostat and 2 tubs. Keep it simple. Once you order the rack then go with whichever thermostat will best serve your needs. Then you will always have a spare thermostat in case you decide to get a snake that has different temp requirements than the BP's do. I'm not sure what Boaphiles turnaround time on just a thermostat order would be but it is an average of 6-8 weeks on cage and rack orders. If all you need is a thermostat then I would suggest Reptile Basics. They usually ship out the next day. Hope this helps...

Re: hi im new and I have a few questions
And to answer your other question, no, leopard geckos do not need UVA/UVB. They are more nocturnal, so you could technically just heat their enclosure with an UTH or heat tape as well, although a heat bulb is a better option for creating a nice basking area while still keeping the ambient temp up. But heat tape would work too :)
