UTH question

I have a 10g tank setup for my juvie spider, and attached my thermostat probe to the bottom of the glass tank. The UTH is a Zoo Med, stuck to a glass picture frame, then that is underneath the tank.

My question is that the temps of the glass is beyond 96+ F, when I touch the glass it burns after a second or two. When I attached the probe to the inside of his hide, the temps are 87+ F, which is fine.

Is it ok to leave the bottom of the tank that hot? If he stayed above the substrate and not burrow, he wouldn't get burned. Or should I not risk it?

There is about a 2-3" layer of aspen above the glass.

I was told its not okay to have the glass that hot because BP's can and will burrow. I rather not risk it. But i believe there are these repti mat things that are like insulation for glass tanks that prevent digging. Id pick one up.

What i do is i have a CHE and a UTH. My UTH isnt attached to glass, its sitting on the table, under the tank.

If the glass burns you, i would recommend getting a new thermometer, it seems yours is off by a lot. My ball pythons are always on Paper towels or newspaper, so i have never experienced them burrowing, but they will push away bedding that's in their hide.

I wouldn't risk it and i would put some air space in between the UTH and the glass tank. Probably an Inch or more.

get a nice T-stat so the glass temp is 91-94
