My new male - Don't know what he is!
So, this is my new male. He's the only one of the new snakes I can take a picture of tonight, as he was the only picky little turd to not eat last night.
He's a pretty little guy, and I am told he comes from a Pastel x Pastel mating.
You'll have to excuse my husbands dirty hands in the pictures!

I don't know if he himself is a pastel, but I do know he's het at least. Either way, its not that big of a deal, I saw him and fell in love, so that was that!

He just looks like a really awesome normal.
-
Pastels usually have green eyes, and his eyes do not appear to be green, so I say a normal.
But wouldn't pastel x pastel make all pastels?
-
Re: My new male - Don't know what he is!
He's a very pretty normal. There is no such thing as a "het for pastel." They are either pastel, or they are not. But he's a handsome boy, even so!

There is no "het pastel".
Pastel x pastel will give you a chance of getting: Super-pastels, pastels, or normals. This one is a normal, and has no chance of having pastel offspring unless bred to an actual pastel. (In which case, the mother would be passing on the pastel gene, not this one)
-
Isn't the "pastel" a dom or co-dom? If so, shouldn't pastel x pastel = pastel?
I'm still learning all this genetic stuff so I am prolly very wrong.
Edit - Nevermind

Re: My new male - Don't know what he is!
pastel to pastel does not make all pastels sorry, and as far as being het theres no such thing as a het for pastel, pastels are co-dom so its either a pastel or not and unfortinitly thats not a pastel just a normal, but you like him and thats all that counts right
pastel to pastel you can get super pastels, pastels and normals

Re: My new male - Don't know what he is!
Your snake is very pretty, however pics with better lighting would be great, some pics he looks pastel, some he looks normal.
The pastel gene does not work that way, not to get too into genetics but the pastel morph is a co-dominate morph meaning that any normal offspring produced are just that, normal. They are not het for pastel. If you breed a normal to a normal you will only get normals, no matter what co-dom morph one of the parents are. The term het only applies to recessive genes such as albino, lavender, pied, clown etc.
A pastel x pastel pairing will give you,
25% super pastels
25% pastel
50% normal
I think
But the is a very pretty snake

Thanks everyone for all the genetics information. I do like him, and he only cost me 20 bucks, so I wasn't lied to. He's a sweetie too!
