    i have had my ball python for about six weeks now when i first had her i only had one hide then i upgrade her to two hides the problem i wondering is that in one of the hides she only goes n when she is shedding other wise she only goes ontop of the hide is this normal

    It could be that it's too warm in the enclosure.

    When balls (or any snake for that matter) shed, they don't feel as secure because even though they don't really use their vision much, it's still compromised. That's probably why she's going in the hide while she sheds.

    What are your temperatures like? And is the hide in question on the warm side or the cool side?

    the hide that she doesnt go in is on the cooler side and the temp is 85

    Are the hides identical? Because many times ball pythons may choose their favorite hide instead of the right temperature so it's important for them to be identical.

    Like others stated...here are some things to look at

    are the hides the same..
    temps...
    are they low enough...(I just updated some hides with litter boxes. We cut a hole in the litter box and turned upside down...I soon found out I had to cut it down to make it not so tall)

    Are they dark ...make sure they are not clear


    Mine typically only go in the warm hide when they are shedding or after they eat.
