    kinda newbie...
    my name is erick and i'm not really new to owning snakes but now that i'm older i'm starting to pay more attention. i have a ball python and a corn snake. pretty sure they are normal since i bought them at a pet store. my wife got a honey/carmel/butter looking corn. not really sure what she/he is. they are all pretty young. right now the two corns are together. they all have aspen bedding. the bp has an uth and two lights. the corns have just two lights. i'm getting ready to get another tank and was wondering what is best for them. uth or two lights?

    great site. lots of useful info. thanks in advance.

    Welcome to BP.net :), Get rid of the lights, they will kill the humidity, use the uth.

    Welcome to BP.net Erick :welcome: The uth is best for them as opposed to the lights. Please feel free to ask any more questions you may have!!!

    I prefer to use a uth... However I do have to use a low watt infrared on one tank to maintain good ambient temps.

    ok so uth it is. should i even worry bout light? my room is fairly dark.

    also what do all the numbers mean? 0.1.1, 2.3, 1.1, 0.1 its a little confusing.

    You light in your room should be enough for the snakes. No additional light is really needed.

    1.0.0=1 male snake
    0.1.0=1 female snake
    0.0.1=1 unsexed snake

    Take Care!

    You could always put your room light on a timer if you really wanted.

    In your examples you would have:
    0.1.1 = You have one female and one unknown sex (no males)
    2.3 = You have 2 males and 3 females
    1.1 = You have one male and 1 female
    0.1 = You have one female (no males)

    Like Jim said: The numbers just mean the gender of your snakes Male.Female.Unknown

    So you would have:
    0.0.1 Ball Pythons (unless you know if it is male or female)
    0.0.1 Corn Snakes (unless you know if it is male or female)
