Ready to shed? With pics!

I'm a new ball python owner, and my snake has a lot of dry flaky spots on his head, and about a week ago had grey eyes. Is he getting ready to shed? I can't tell. Here are some pictures =)

Yes he looks be be getting ready to shed. He also looks VERY dry. I would bump your humidity up. A soak might not be a bad idea either...

the humidity has been around 60% since the eyes went gray. too low?

deffenetly in shed cycle. As said humidity must go up. either spray it with tepid water(not cold)
or give him a 10 minutes tepid bath. Becareful the water must cover the half of the body..

Cute looking BP! :) :) Looks like he's about to shed. I second what the others said about the humidity.

When my snakes go into shed I normally lightly mist them w/ water out of a spray bottle. I do this about once every other day until they shed. I always get 1 piece sheds.

so i just discovered a problem that i'm going to fix asap. I stuck a thermometer directly to the bottom of the tank where the UTH and apparently due to my ignorance it's reached about 115 degrees. I should probably go ahead and put a dimmer on that thing. I unplugged it for now until i can get one.

Eek. :colbert: That's why a digital thermometer with probe is recommended, as it measures the temperature RIGHT over the hottest spot (wherever that might be). I'd recommend getting one asap, and yeah - definitely start using a dimmer! You can pick up a Lutron dimmer from Home Depot for $11, or get a cheap thermostat like the Repti-Temp 500R.
