Totally disgusted with my first shipment through fedex
I am gonna start this with how much do you spend on general to ship through fedex overnight by 10:30. Now for the story.

I shipped a 4lb - 16X16X8 package to Utah from Michigan overnight. I went through the set up a shipment app under my account, filed out all the info except package dimensions (because it didn't say it was required option and i didnt feel like finding a tape measure if it wasnt needed). Clicked on the rates button and it said it was $55 and some change. So I scheduled the package and shipped it out on Monday. The package arrived safely to it destination so that is not the issue. My bank account got billed today and I was charged $85. When I called fed ex they told the $85 was correct because of the package dimensions I was billed at the 11lb rate. I am trying to dispute this but they are telling me I didn't read the fine print about the dimensions could affect the rate. I looked on the part of the site where I scheduled the shipment and nothing on it says anything about the dimension may change the rate other wise I would have put in the dimensions.

So what is the average cost to ship a pack across the country for everyone else. I have heard 30-60 for shipping but 85 seems excessive.

In my Fedex Module when you select "Use Own Packaging" Mine have stars next to the Dimensions.

I think you kinda screwed yourself here. If you do NOT put your own Dimensions you leave it up to THEIR discretion as to what size and weight that package is.

Is the 30 extra dollars worth NOT grabbing a tape measure. Just sayin.

If I could save 30+ smackers by taking two mins and measuring a box....Id do it.

Yeah for that large of a box, that is around what it costs to ship. I'm sorry to inform you of this, but you have no case against them. Heck it just cost my friend $86 to ship a box that size just a few states over, but that's what you get when you ship overnight priority. You ALWAYS have to enter dimensions to see the exact rate and in this case it hurt you financially.

Filling out all the information is key to getting a proper quote. I hope they work with you on it but I doubt they will budge much..

    Best of luck

Lesson learned on my part but my main thing is it never told me that the dimension where required and this being my first package was never told that dimension would affect the price. So yes if i knew that bit I would have enter the dimensions. I know it was my bad but the fact that no where on the website it tells me that the dimensions are required or could affect the rate.

Also you say with that big of a box, what size boxes do you use to ship out your ball pythons?

Hm, I have always had to fill in the dimensions when using "my packaging". Same for UPS.
It can really make a difference in price...

So yeah, no case there, sorry :(

Babies go out in a 12x9x6 and sub adults go out in a 12x12x9

$85 is about average for priority overnight for that size box. Like everyone else said, it is essential that you enter the box dimensions if you want an accurate quote. They have a conversion factor for volume to weight; even if your box weighs less, because of the space it takes up it will be treated as though it weighs the amount based on the volume.

Not claiming to be scammed (mislead is my perception) more of it was a shock and lack of knowledge on my part. I am not going to dispute it anymore and just going to accept the loss. I just have made two new business policies for company, first don't accept any offers until you check your shipping quote. and second, don't offer shipping included unless it is a bigger ticket item.

Thank you freakie for your box dimensions for future reference.
