Humidity control

I have tried everything to keep the humidity up in Edgar's cage. I have a 20 gallon tank, It has indoor / outdoor carpet as substrate, it has reflective insulation on top of the screen with holes cut in it for my lamps I have tried turning the lamp off but the tank gets to about 70. With the lamp on it gets to be 84. Edgar always sleeps on the cold side The hot side is 90 degrees, I have an under tank heater.

I spray the tank daily along with wetting the sphagnum moss, I pour about 3/4 cup of water on the sphagnum moss to wet it. I have the water dish under the lamp. No matter what I have tried the humidity won't get above 40%. I have a digital thermometer and humidity monitor that is in the middle of the cage about 2 inches from the bottom. He had a shed last week and all but his neck came off beautifully. He scrapped it off about 2 days later. About 3 days after I feed him I give him a soak in his tub. And I spray him with humidity spray tropical mist He is eating well, his skin is smooth and his behavior is standard for BP's.

What else should I do?

You are good. 40% is not too bad. Do you have a UTH? You can move that big water bowl half-way on the UTH too. And you can exchange the carpet for cypress.

When he goes on his next shed cycle, then just mist more often.

i use Eco-earth substrate (shredded coconut husk) and it works well for humidity control. i give it a good spray down when it gets too dry but i can keep my humidity up around 55%-60% without a problem in a 40 gal glass tank. when shed time rolls around a little more misting and its good.

Im having the exact opposite problem at the moment. I just moved my snakes into plastic tubs and I cant seem to keep the humidity under 70%. Any how when I was using tanks I put a damp cloth over a 4th of the top then some ventilation room and covered the rest with tin foil and tape.

Oh and you could try just ditching your lamp and using the UTH.

I had that problem too when switching my snakes to tubs. I fixed it by drilling more holes until I got the humidity to come down to around 50%. It was a trial and error type of thing

i had the same problem put three layers of tin foil on it then duct tape all over that, then u can cut holes for the lamp and ventilation, im always at 50 now without doin anything.
