    C****y Day
So I woke up today at around 11 after getting to bed around 3 due to Halloween Horror Nights at universal.
I unfortunately woke up to a very wet kitchen floor.
Sometime during the night, my fridge compressor overheated and shut off leaving everything to defrost. This included ice cream and the other $100 worth of groceries i just brought on Saturday morning =/
Even worse, I lost all 46 of the frozen mice I had left and it's a week tonight since the snakes last ate so now I have to deal with the idiots at Pet Smart for a month until I can get to a show.
    Sub-minimum income sucks.

Yeah. The guy we're renting from is gonna get us a new fridge/freezer, but still. I lost $40 worth of snake food and I'm gonna have to pay another $40 for 8 from petsmart till the next show

Ooh! Lucky you live in an apartment. Gah--my parents woke up in our house one morning to find water up past their ankles. A pipe had burst under the sink downstairs and flooded the basement.
It destroyed all of our furniture downstairs, all of the paint, the carpet, anything made of wood, etc. so we had to pay people to come help us pack it all up in boxes ASAP and store everything, then dry up the water, haul out our ruined items, and replace all the carpet and paint.
It was one very ugly mess.
We have also had fridge issues...those aren't pleasant. :/

If you have renter's insurance, the spoilage from a defective refrigerator should be covered.
Call your insurance agent to find out.

For the less than $200 value of everything in the fridge, it wouldn't be worth claiming on the insurance.

    You live in Orlando?
You can probably get a few ASFs from Mike Cavanaugh to tide you over until the show. Or he'll hook you up with frozen from now until forever. :)

It's a non-deductable feature of most insurance policies. Why not claim the $200 loss? All you have to do is send a list of food items that were ruined in the claim. I've done it twice in a 1 year period when we had a defective refrigerator that would break every couble of months.
