Feeding question New owner
Hello i was given a BP that was not in good care. the info i was given said he/she is 2 years old and about two foot long. I have no problem getting the snake to eat. My question is how do you now how much to feed.
Re: Feeding question New owner
If you feed it a mouse or rat that is proportionate to the thickness of the snake, that should work out fine.
Re: Feeding question New owner
You normally want to offer a prey item that is equal to the thickest part of the snakes body. I feed once every week.
Re: Feeding question New owner
General rule of thumb that I have always heard is to feed a pray item around 15% of the snakes weight. As mentioned above, as long as the prey item is not larger than the widest part of your snake, it should be fine. Also, If the snake will take rats, I would go that route rather than feeding multiple mice. At two years old, feeding once every 7 days should keep your snake happy.
Re: Feeding question New owner
Given the size the age and the fact that is it likely a male, a small rat (about 55/65 grams) or 2 large adult mice once a week for it's entire life will enough for him to thrive and should allow him to eat with consistency.
Re: Feeding question New owner
Think you for the help. Last time i give him three large mice and he still acks like he's hungery but i was feeding every two weeks i will try every 7 days. thinks for the INfo.
you have been of great help
thinks for all the help. i will start feeding every 7 days and will try a rat rather then feeding 3 large mice.
