Do I still need a heating pad?
my new BP is housed ina rubbermaid tank with small holes drilled for ventilation and a sqaure wire mesh cut out on one side for the heat lamp. i keep my tank in my bathroom. my temp on the side with the heat lamp is within caresheet requirements, as is the temp on the cool side. the humidity level is also within caresheet requirements (probably due to showers and the fact that i have the heat lamp over the water bowl). SOOOO.....do i still need a UTH pad since all my levels are fine?
Re: Do I still need a heating pad?
Is the heat lamp on 24/7?
Re: Do I still need a heating pad?
i feel every one has there own way of doing things, heat pads are the best i suppose, but lamps have been used for years and i think they work just fine.. as long as temp and humity are in the rite zone evry thing should be fine. :gj:
Re: Do I still need a heating pad?
you could use a red heat bulb, or even better CHE.
Re: Do I still need a heating pad?
I would use one of those night time heat lamps that are dak light but still give heat.
Since you have him in a tub, the beauty of tubs is that heat mats are easier than cutting holes in the top. Just make holes on one side for breathing,, snap the top on and he can fit anywhere.
Including when someone shows up and starts cleaning, they open that up and they wont be back.

Just make sure your fire insurance is adequate ;)
Re: Do I still need a heating pad?
yes the lamp is on 24/7 but its the red ifrared bulb that emits heat but not light so he still has day and night cycles via the window.
