Interesting behavior by 2 youngins

The snakes are kinda wrapped together in a straight line, only one snakes got only is head in the hide, burried in aspen, while the other has only its tail in hide.... make any sense or just random behavior.. i know snakes are bad but i was told by a trusted someone that when they are young its ok... i am getting a new tank at next show

MEANT TO SAY **** I know housing snakes are bad *** haha. not "snakes are bad"

What you are seeing is competition, a struggle for dominance pure and simple. It is a sure sign these snakes DO NOT want to be near each other and that someone is going to get hurt.

They will compete for the best hiding spot, best food, etc. Sooner or later, the dominant one will hurt or even kill the other. And, yes that does happen.

Save yourself and them the trouble and separate them. Or it won't be long before you are back telling us one is hurt or was eaten.

I have to agree. One snake will be dominate over the other hence get more heat than the other ....get the cool side etc. etc. It also could lead to fighting. Hence the not good to house them together. Snakes are pretty much loners except when they are mating. For that matter most reptiles are...

the smaller one has been getting more jumpy lately, slowly over time... she never used to freak out into a ball when i would try and pick her up, even when I had the other snake... and its changed.

i put her in a 10 gal til i get a bigger one. good thing i didnt go thru with ordering a 40 breeder offline lol to make more room for them together...heh

Will even males and females compete for dominance of the enclosure? Or just snakes of the same gender?
In most species, M/M will fight and F/F will fight but not M/F. Is this different for snakes?
