Re: Breeding data not clear
It's all up to them. That's a general timeframe for a breeding season for most. You'll get some girls that will go early, some will go late, and some won't go at all. Part of the fun of the hobby. If you aren't blessed with a ton of patience, these animals will teach you. By force.
Re: Breeding data not clear
raely it can take one month mosttimes 3-4 months sometimes longer
Remember she is carring several eggs, one hook up does not mean all the eggs are fertilized so the longer the match up the moer eggs. hopefully.
When she decides she is done she will start forming shells around those eggs and then it is a couple months till she lays and then 2 more months until they hatch. Yes she can carry fertilized unshelled eggs in her for as long as she thinks she needs too. well within a reasonable amount of time.
Hence someone buying a first time snake and 6 months later, surprise.
Re: Breeding data not clear
This season the girl I started breeding the latest (early February) laid the earliest (late April). This was the FASTEST I have ever had a female go from copulation to laying. All my other females, who I started pairing in November, laid clutches late May-early July. So there's no cut-and-dried timeline, it really varies a lot from girl to girl, just depends how ready they are!
Re: Breeding data not clear
I understand its not a race! I c now that it takes time because the eggs must be fertile.
Thanks guys. I just hope I can say "ha, it didnt take long at all."
Re: Breeding data not clear
Females can retain sperm for many months. I saw someone post once that he'd bred a spider to a normal and had 5 eggs. Everyone guessed how many spiders would be in the clutch. He wound up with 3 spiders, 1 normal . . . and 1 pastel! After checking his records, he realized he'd bred that female to a pastel the year before, and apparently she had retained some of that sperm.
I usually begin breeding in October, but the earliest I've ever had a clutch was April. It really all depends on when is the right time of the year for each particular female.
