    Hog Island Boa question
Picked up my Hog Island from the LPS where I work part time. Most of the time he looks really light like this:

The day I go to see him and show my hubby, he was really dark with heavier speckles. I go back later that night to buy him and he was lighter but not like above. After a few hours home, I got him out to do some exploring, and he lightend again:

Tonight, I go to see him and he's dark again, but seemed to lighten slightly while he was out. I don't mind the color changes, it's really interesting. However, I was wondering why? Is it linked to moods, temps, or comfort levels? He had eaten thurs am and I picked him up late friday pm. Could it be extra camo to hide while digesting?

I was just reading an article about Hog Island Boas in Reptiles magazine (I believe August or September) and yes the article mentioned they lighten and darken as it goes from night to day. Its a daylight thing.

ahunt037....ummm I absolutely adore this snake! I HIGHLY recommend! I haven't named him yet, but I'm having him and my BP sexed tomorrow (follow up appt for my BP...figured while I'm here lol) so a name will be soon to follow. My ultimate, idealistic goal is to breed for true, normal Hogs as they are becoming more rare...from what I've read so far....someone chime in if I am mistaken.

He really seems to like attention. Lays across my shoulders while I walk around doing light chores.

I am taking name suggestions though...kinda drawing a blank here....

Wow, gorgeous Hogg! Love the coloring, both light and dark. As for names...well...I'll suggest only a few, but it really boils down to what you like best. ;)

Chelios (after Chev Chelios in Crank...simply because he's hot and that's one hot snake, lol)
Sidekick (because he likes to hang out with you)
    Tangy (love his color!)

or...if you are wanting to go with more regal names....

Leonidas (I just like this name, dunno why)
Arthur (because that snake SHOULD be a king ;) )
    Achilles (another favorite of mine)

Well...just some ideas. Good luck in choosing a name, looking forward to seeing more pics of this handsome guy!

Nice Hog! real clean...I love mine, I have a 09 male. They do change shades...mine gets real dark during the day and gets light towards the evening and night hours fairly consistently.

Dark Phase (he gets even darker)
