    Ugh, dog bites suck
Well, I know first hand what it's like to be bitten by a dog. I got mauled by a rottweiler a year ago at a party. Have nice scars on my thigh to prove it.

My poor cocker spaniel cody, got into a fight with my moms boyfriends dog friday night. I came over, last night and realized he was whining, shaking and acting incredible weird. That's when I noticed the giant wound under his belly. My mom, apparently hadn't even CHECKED the dog for injury after the fight. She said she was "to busy". He had bled, licked at the wound all night and been in pain.

10 stitches, a drainage tube, cone on his head & $350 later this is the end result. I AM SO PISSED OFF! My moms boyfriend got mad at us for taking him to the vet, he doesn't believe in doing that. He says if the dog was that injured, they'd be shot like old times. Here's a nice little picture.

He has to have this gell injected into his wound 3x a day, pain meds 2x a day, this powder 1x a day and a warm compress on the swollen pocket of fluid 3x a day until it drains.

In the pic, on the left you'll see a bulge next to the stitches, thats the pocket of fluid thats the size of a small orange. The stitches go all the way under his belly as well.

Wow! That is just awful! I am so sorry that your poor little pooch had to go through all of that. I can't believe your mom's boyfriend acted like that either. I apologize for what I am about to say but he is a real jerk!

Yeah, he is a pretty big jerk. But I am more infuriated by the fact that my mom didn't bother to check the dog for injury when it HAD TO OF BEEN clear that he was licking himself all night, and acting strange. How can you NOT see a wound that large on a tan dog?? She told me if I hadn't checked him, she wouldn't have noticed it last night either. By then, the infection would have been so bad it could have killed him since how deep it is into his abdomen. I am just so disapointed, I feel like I can't trust my mom with my animals after giving away my snakes, and now leaving my sisters dog to suffer all night like that. She just doesn't care anymore, i've had it.

Honestly, sometimes I feel like someone has. I want to move across the country. I think this place gives me bad luck.

Your Mom's boyfriend is absolutely responsible for that. It should be reported and he should pay.

Sounds like Mom is the worst person to leave animals with. Hopefully you can find someone else to watch your pup?

Oh I know he's responsible, he got all pissed and hung up on my mom when she called him to say that his dog DID in fact injury him. He won't pay, I know that and I know my mom won't get any b**ls to stand up to him. I don't have anyone else to watch the dogs, my new snakes coming will be in my old room with a new lock on the door. I told her if she EVER touches my snakes agian I will not talk to her for a long, long time.

Man that sucks. Sorry to hear That. All I can say that if it was my dog. I would take your moms bfs advice and buy a bullet. Only difference is the gun would be pointed at his dog. Please keep us posted on his progress

Oh yeah, we've got the firepower here trust me. But I don't have the heart to shoot an animal, I believe in humainly euthanizing them. My mom is working a double today, so I have to stay here and give him his meds at the times he needs it since she won't be here. He's tried to bite me 5 times already, the wound has to be cleaned though. I'd bite me too if someone was poking at my owie :(

Do you have any responsible neighborhood teens who could watch your dog? Is it just during the afternoon? I was always the go-to person for when people needed their dogs let out or walked after school, for the people who worked late. Doesn't help if you need them watched all day or in the morning, but it could work.

My only experience with a dog bite is one I received when protecting a neighbor's dog from a vicious wandering dog once. I would have rather gotten bitten than have to explain that their dachshund was mauled by a marauding golden retriever.

Best advice I can give is...actually do move. Some relatives can be so much easier to deal with when you speak with them on them on the phone or meet them a couple times a year for holidays, rather than being subjected to them constantly.

It really sounds like this situation is causing you stress, loss of money, and generally keeping you fairly unhappy. Your shoes are not nailed to the soil you were born on...you can actually live anywhere you like, you don't have to stay in the place that's most familiar now. If you're over 18, it's time to flee the nest. It really puts everything into perspective.
