    Health Inspector
I just got a call from my wife that we had an unexpected visit from the health inspectors (which our apt. complex is supposed to give us a 24 hour notice before anyone can enter). They went through our apt. asking about the animals and fish, then they got to the BP's and asked..."are they constricting snakes?". My wife replied "yes they are". He then went on to tell her that Kent, OH has restrictions on venomous and constricting snakes and that we should expect a future visit from them. He told her that he would check to see if "they" were on the list. He never even asked what species they are!!! My wife called me at worked crying, worried that they are going to take our pets! This is complete BS!!! All 9 snakes are securely kept in a rack system.

Does anyone know if such a list exists for Kent, OH and if so...can they post it here? I would like to see which animals are inluded on it. Isn't it great...just because someone doesn't like snakes...they are bad! What is this country coming to!?

I appreciate any assistance you guy/gals can give me.

    Thanks,
    -Jordan

Yeah that is awful. I would be so upset. I would think that balls wouldn't be on the list since they are smaller. Keep us updated. I am in Delaware, OH.

so basically any animals they find to be a "dangerous animal" requires a permit if they believe the animal is properly secured and maintained. annual fees of 50.00 for the permit. one permit per animal. read the whole section, their is a lot in there

I wouldn't be too worried. It specifically states a wild animal that "constitute a danger to human life", and I'm pretty sure a Ball has never killed anyone.

You know, just because a guy is in a uniform does not mean you have to let him into your home.

IF your landlord is REQUIRED by law to give you notice before anyone enters your HOME on his behalf, and he doesn't do that, you DON'T have to let anyone in.

You don't even have to answer your door. Just because someone knocks does not obligate you to talk to them, let them in, heck you don't even have to let them know you're home.

    No warrant, no entry.

I'm not giving you or your wife crap here. I see this, the answering of doors and phones, simply because of a knock or ring, all the time by people who would rather they hadn't but don't know why they did. Habit and fear. We're used to being available on demand and doing what people in uniform tell us. Some of us are anyway.

I don't know if this guys site is still up, but if it is he's from Ohio and will know what's up. Go to www.thereptileroom.org. The owners name is Gary. If that site is down go to faunaclassifieds.com and search for GaryO. He's a good guy who will be more than happy to help you out. Seriously.

The few stupid people ruin everything for everyone else.

That's how it is with pretty much anything there is.

that why you need to support the people and groups fighting for our rights to keep reptiles. lawmakers just keep making these laws with little or bad info and we pay. but you also have to be good and resonsable owers, you sound like your doing it right, sounds like some one turned you in. no other reasion for a unanouced house call. good luck if you need a permit run and get it.
