Is there any legal way to obtain it without going through a vet?

No, If you think you need it please bring a fecal sample and your snake to a vet.

I am going to the vet but I've heard a lot about this being a trick to end fasts with bp's so was wondering if there is any way to get hold of it without a vet. It seems like you used to be able to get it without a vet but I might be mistaken.

No, you need a vet! I would not recommend using it unless it is a life or death situation!

I've administered Baytryl before that the vet sent home with me but it was several years ago. As long as you get the dosage right for the weight, what is the problem with administering either to your animal? I saw a breeder several years ago that sold Flagyl on their site. I guess it became a "prescription only" drug more recently?
