Breeder male died...Now what?
I have read that you can not introduce a new male into a group of breeding females. My male died and now Im left with the 4 females. Is there any way to introduce a male or will they always kill it? I hate to feed off the group because they have been great producers. Thanks in advance
Re: Breeder male died...Now what?
you will be wasting time and supplies really if you do anything other then feed them off and start over. You can do what lovelace said and hold back a male child, but with the amount of time that takes, and the fact that your breeders are probably already a few months old, it just wouldn't be very productive. feed them off and set up new.
PS
This is one of the reasons you are always better off with a 1.2 group then a 1.4 group. If the male dies you only mess up 2 breeder females
Re: Breeder male died...Now what?
I have found that putting male and females together at younger age is the only way. Once they reach adult hood mine get very tempermental and have attacked other males or females. You could raise up one of the males or just raise up another 1.2 breeding group. It takes time to do it that way, but always an option.
