What do you run in your bins?

I have bins the size of small litter pans about 14"X10". Currently I'm running 1.3. Could I have more females in each bin? Maybe 1.4?

I know alot of people use small litter pans so what do you run in them?

you could run a 1.5 in that size tub

Ya i got 18.5x15.5x4 and irun like 1.6 or soemtime 1.7 depending on the females.

I'm a firm believe in no over crowding rodents. That small litter pan is 6" shorter than a ten gallon tank. There is no way that I would run 1.4 in there. You have the potential for five adults and 40+ babies in there. I wouldn't do it. The only way I would run them THAT HIGH in THAT BIN is if I were just pulling pinks. Then it doesn't really matter.

For about a dollar more you can get the Petmate value line litter pans, which are substantially bigger and perfect for running 1.4 mice in.

I dont leave the femals in with the males so over crowding with pups is not a problem. I have a seprate rack just for Birthing. I have been running 1.5/1.6/1.7 for a little over a year now and have not seen a lot of issuses. Everyone does things diff.

sadly i use a 25 wide reptile tank (guess it that size) to hold my mice and i got prollylike 2 males and 8 females and I always pulling the largest mice out for the younger bps and the corn snake. if not for thepossible need when I hatch eggs out inthe spring ( once they are laid) I do away wit mice altogether. prefer the rats , I like asf but they just too slow growning in my book/needs)

the only thing holding you back is really smell...
In a smaller tub, with 5-8 adults and babies, you will stink in just a matter of days.
Most of my lab cages are 10x19, and the lowest I run is 1.5. Most are way more than that. Sometimes, you have to adjust for murderers and cannibals. As time goes by, the cage dynamics change too.
I harvest anywhere from 400 to sometime 700 or more per week in 60 lab cages. Some of them are so overcrowded with babies at times, that they are literally crawling floors...But, within a couple of weeks, most of the babies are pulled, and the cage will go back to a reasonable level.
Most important part is, finding a good ratio for that particular cage, and quality rodent blocks to stop cannibalism.
