    First ever lock!!!
I had a normal female go off feed for a few weeks and decided to throw my male pastel het ghost in with her. Within an hour they were locked up!

I do have one question though...How long does a lock typically last? These two were only locked for about 1-2 hours and I thought they usually stayed together much longer?

Congrats on the lockup.....each snake varies on the lockup time...kinda like us humans lol....give them a few days and keep an eye on them, you're likely to notice several more lockups :)

Thanks! Should I leave them together or give them a few days off then try again? I have read that some people remove the male once a lock is completed. Is this just a matter of preference?

I know that's the general rule of thumb, but some say once they have seen a lock take place, they remove the male and give them a few 3 days rest. I'm pretty sure everyone has their own way of doing things and both work fine, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Thanks! We were in the same position as you last year...all of our girls were a little to young. I hope we get eggs too! It won't be a high dollar clutch, but I do love pastels and I am really hoping for a female Pastel Het Ghost to pair with my male Pastel in a few years. We'll end up holding all female possible hets back and see what happens in the upcomming years. Super Pastel Ghost is my goal on this project!

Good luck to you in the future!

From my experience....a visual lockup does not guaranty eggs are in the basket so to speak.....3 on 3 off is a good rule of thumb....also, pay attention to the weather patterns, the atomspheric highs and lows, thunderstorms especially tend to throw mine into to breed mode. Hope this helps! Keep us posted :)!

Soooo true there...Just cause they're knocking it out doesn't me he gets one past the goalie...It just means he's on the right field...LOL

Keep tossing them in and wait to see the ovulation or other signs of being gravid...The females can retain his seed for quite some times, so let them have fun and cross your fingers... :D:D:D
