    Burrowing???
Does it mean anything when a snake burrows? I just got some new bedding for my snake (a mix of coconut husks and bark-cypress I think) and for the first time EVER, as soon as I put her in (after cleaning her cage), she starts burrowning under the new bedding..

I've heard of snakes doing this, but mine never has. I'm only concerned if it means something like she's really stressed out or something.

Please comment, and thanks in advance for your help!

Anyone ever have this happen to them before btw? I don't mind her burrowing, I just want to make sure she's not overly stressed or something...

I can say that I haven't had my Ball Python for very long, but he did this twice since I've had him. After a day or so he kind-of just stopped. I didn't know if he was stressed out, or just trying to find a place to hide, but I can tell you that he did have no real good hides at the moment, and then I went and got him some good hides, and he hasn't done it since. What are you using for hides, and do you have one on the hot and cool side? If you do, can you show us some pictures?

By no means am I an expert in any way, I'm just trying to help you like everyone else helped me when I first arrived, and I'll definitely do my best to use my experiences to help you if I can...

I do have hides in her tank, but only one. She's so big it's hard to find two that will fit in her tub...She does move it around if she gets too hot/too cold though. It was just wierd. She went into her hide, then came out and started going around it. Then, almost all the way around, she started "digging" (with her face, witch was kinda funny...) and then just started going around her tub under the substrate. Kinda looked like bugs bunny in the old cartoons...you'd just see the substrate rise as she moved around. Then she'd purk her head up and look around, and go back "underground".

Oh...and I've had her for about a year now, so when I say I've never seen her do this before, it's not like I got her last week...

I've never had my bp burrow, could be a sign of stress. But I'm not a professional just personal experience.

She did have to get a shot today...she wasn't too happy about that. I've left her alone in the room for a while and she's back to snoozing in her hide, so I guess she's okay now

    Re: Burrowing???
My female ball python does this a couple days before showing signs of a shed, and immediately after eating. For big sheds she stays burrowed under her water bowl [always the water bowl, never a hide], but for normal sheds she just burrows right before then goes back to her hide after she starts to shed. After a meal, she'll burrow under her hide and make sure all sides of her are covered by substrate, then after a day she'll put her substrate back and just be chilling like she never burrowed in the first place. It's like she's trying to mess with my head...

I would say shedding soon or mites maybe, My boas where burrowing under substrate when I got mites, my ball burrows when she is in shed i only witnessed it twice but noticed the coco husks upturned when she sheds sometimes
