Male burm VS Female RTB

First off, I had a thread in general herp but I couldnt decide what to pick (was "ideas to fill a 6' x 2' x 2'")

so ive narrowed it down to Female RTB and Male Burm, I am myself going more towards male burm because I love thier pattern

but I was wondering, how big do they get weight wise? Mark said they average at 8 - 12 feet. But how heavy do they get? will it be like 20 - 50 pounds like a RTB or heavier?

well a male burm will get a tad bit longer and a good bit heavier than a female RTB BCC (If you are talking BCI then a burm is MUCH bigger). I too prefer the pattern of the burms but if you are worried about size then I would go with a female RTB BCI, your looking more around 8 ft with that and not as girthy. But if you are looking for a big snake then I would go with a male burm or a male retic, your looking probably around 4-5 ft more for a male Retic but retics are significantly skinnier than burms so in my opinion easier to handle. But burms do tend to be a little more laid back and lazy than retics so if you are planning on trying to keep your snake in your lap when he/she is bigger, a burm would be more likely to just chill. Retics like to "investigate" everything haha. So it would be a workout to keep them in one spot.

How heavy of a burm are we talking?

and yeah I was thinking of a Female BCI, not BCC. I am far to poor to buy a BCC lol

Im not afraid to handle anything from 8 - 14 feet. I will ALWAYS buy baby's of the snakes I want (example.. buying a baby male burm.. or baby female BCI) So they would be extremely hand tame by the time they are big

I devot a lot of handling time to my animals. I let my leo roam and get out of her tub for 10 minutes every day and she LOVES it.

so devoting an extra 10 - 30 minutes for a snake wont be so bad

By heavier are we talking.... 100 pound 8 - 12 foot burm? Or is it more like 50 pounds or lower?

I cant seem to find a good weight range for burms

(also yeah retic is not a good choice for me, a lil to big and they are to squirrley, id preffer a snake that will just chill)

Trent at Albino Burmese has a male albino burm which is 14'-16' I believe and 120+ pounds.

An 8'-12' Male burm over 100lbs is in my opinion, extremely obese. I've seen plenty like that as burms typically with eat anything and everything you throw their way. But I'd say closer to 50 is more normal and healthier for the snake.

Ah, so its probably safe to say the snake Ajballs is reffering to is a extremely large and unusual one?

Male burms, in my experience tend to remain under 12 feet, but that isn't to say that you won't get an exceptional animal. A healthy 12' burm should also be WELL UNDER 100 pounds.

I love burms, and having owned many BCIs and many burms I prefer the burms.

My advice is to get the burm. They are great animals. If you don't power feed him, he should grow at a manageable rate and to a manageable size.

A good feed schedule is one suitable sized prey item every week. Burms, for the most part, are garbage disposals. They will eat and eat and eat and eat and they will use all that food to grow mega fast if you let them. However, one suitable sized prey item every 7 days is not detrimental to the animal. You're not going to be starving him and he will be healthier in the long run.

I am pretty much almost sold on the burm. They arent that much more expensive than BCI's so I think im gonna go for it :)

Thanks for the tip on feeding, I had a plan that if I got one (which would be a baby) that I would feed it every 5 days until it was older, but instead 7 days sounds a lot better.

Besides, I think every 5 days is edging on power feeding lol!

Lol, they are really amazing snakes and all but I like the bigger size and amazing pattern of the burm

In the future I am planning on getting a RTB BCC :)
