    ASF's and "Imprinting"
So im curious how many people here use the ASF's as a general food source for there snakes and the snake still takes regular mice and rats?

We've got a couple that take both, a couple that only take asf, and a couple that won't even look at them.

Thanks. Im really just curious if the imprinting thing is a huge worry or not. My snakes take either mice or rats right now. Ill be breeding normal rats here soon but my soft furs just had babies and would like to feed some off when they get of size. 2 of my babies and my big male takes mice and rats, frozen or live with no issue so im curious if an asf here and there would really curve there appetite.

I feed a mix of prekilled soft furs, prekilled mice (mainly for the smaller snakes), and FT rats. No issues with anyone getting fussy. They'll just about all eat anything I dangle in there as long as it's warm enough.

I've even used them exclusively to get problem eaters chugging along, then had no trouble getting them to take other items.

I think there may be a few animals out there that might show some preference, but for the most part it's just not true. Not that I've experienced.

I switch between Asf's and dumbo rats all the time depending on what i have. I breed both of them. The Ball pythons dont mind and neither do the red tailed boas.

Just goes to show you that the people who claim imprinting are the ones who dont have soft furs and are jealous. Haha.

Haha exactly! Mine pound on ASF's.

I sold a little too many a couple months ago so I had to go pick up some mice and regular rats and they took them without any hesitation.

Im gonna keep on breeding them and using them as food. I like how the breeding colony can stay together at all times and just seperates the weaned ones. Just seems like less work than regular rats to me.
