    Odd Question
I have been breeding my own rats for the last couple of yrs now and I have never run into this situation I'm about to ask about so i was hoping to get some opinions. I have a breeder female that just finished weaning a litter and I was about to move her to the recovery tub to rest a bit before going back into rotation...well I noticed that her stomach is swelled like she is in full term with another litter but I'm certain that she has not had any contact with a male since I moved her from the breeder tubs while she was still prego.....any thoughts on whats going on? I have lots of breeders and I would really hate to get something going around my colony so I have her in quarantine at the moment until i can figure it out.

Ive heard common rats and soft fur rats both doing this. It seems to be normal. Theres a few videos on youtube about it. One guy has a rat that had a litter of 3, then just after weaning she dropped 12 more or something like that.

I haven't ever had that happen, but give it a few weeks and see what happens.

If you haven't had any exposure to outside rats or other animals you have a very small small chance of it being communicable.

It could be megacolon or it could also be tumors.

    Time will tell.

Could be a blocked mamaduct.. We've seen that where mature females basically can't drain the milk and they get all huge a swollen.

by the fact that she was pulled into her own tank when she was preggo, and not with a male for over a month, then had another litter. pretty cut and dry

so what she gave birth approx 30 days after giving birth?

No possible way an offspring developed early (say the mythical 3-4 week mature rate) and did it equating in a 7-8 week observed pregnancy?

off topic a Lil but my cousins dog had that happen and they didn't take it to vet till after it's mammary burst then took to vet they put a drain tube in so any new stuff drained out 6 weeks after it burst you couldn't even tell there was something wrong with the dog not even a scar (well scar you could see cause the hair covered it back up). they continued to breed her till she got to old and never had that happen again they did give her the fallowing breeding off to give her extra time to recoup
