Opinions on the ZooMed Repti-Temp rheostat?
I'm looking into ordering a thermostat or rheostat and this one came up, and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with it? I'm going to be using it to take care of the temperature of the basking spot for my bp because it's always a little on the hot side (95-96 f) when the cool side is only 78-80 f.

Should I go with this one or look for another brand t-stat/rheostat?

It will fluctuate, and it will not be that precise, I would personally spend a little more and get something reliable like the Johnson or Ranco on the low end.

A thermostat is the single most important thing when it comes to husbandry and paying a little more is an investment that is well worth it.

i used to have one so, persona experience here:

spend the extra 40 and get a johnson or ranco pre-wired from rich at www.reptilebasics.com. Literally, set it and forget it.

Even with that thing on i had UTH glass temps of 114 and that was REGULATED. Not cool zoomed, not cool. I could never get it to stabilize. If your room temps aren't exactly perfect all the time, its not going to do you a whole lot of good.

but not everybody can afford a prewired ranco or johnson just yet. i found one that will work just fine but its a on and off t-stat. heres the link.

but a herpstat, helix, ranco, johnson is all worth the investment

I have the ZooMed rheostat to control my heat lamp which helps to regulate my ambient temps and use a thermostat (hydrofarm) on my UTH.
