Any het red experts out there?
I paired these two up and the eggs are hatching.

Out of that clutch I got one 'normal' normal, one crazy normal, 3 'normal' lessers that look like every other lesser I've hatched this year, and then this boy. Third picture is him with one of my normal lessers. Do I have a het red female and not know it? :O

Either way I should find out next year, soon as this guy is up to size he's going right back to the dame to find out for sure. :D

I'm no expert, however when het reds come out of the egg they look...well....axanthic. And gain color as they age.
But, that baby does look cool, I say do the pairing again and see what happens.:)

I know the red axanthics do that, wasn't aware the het reds did too. I'm mainly going off a comparison of the lesser het reds from Corey Woods' site, clutch 27.

Kinda off topic, but what do you lay your babies on to get such a nice picture on a white backdrop?

    BTW, VERY COOL BABIES

Believe it or not, white sterilite tub tops make a great backdrop for smaller snakes. :gj:

Yes, and that lesser is more black and white compared to most, and compared to your hatchling. You can always give Corey a call though, he's great about getting back to calls (not so great with emails) and ask his opinion. He would have a lot of insight I'm sure.:)

I do not see any het red in that female.

Given I am not an "expert" but your Lesser male, could have something else going on with him.

I'm with Pat on this one. It might just be the lighting in the pic, but the lesser looks like it has a lot more chance of having some surprise morph mixed in than the normal does.

We've bred the lesser male to several females, and they have all looked like him. He is a different looking lesser, but whatever he is, THIS pairing with this female has produced this unlikely lesser hatchling.

Here is a better pic of the female, which is where I think the curve ball came from.

    Any more opinions?
