Eggs not dimpling - day 53
I've got a clutch of 8 eggs on day 53 now, 1 of them collapsed about 2 weeks ago (it was sitting on top of the other eggs) but the rest have remained quite firm.
According to VPI's book, this is bad because the eggs should be dimpled so when the baby makes a slit, air gets sucked into the egg and allows it to breathe. Should I cut the eggs that haven't dimpled?
Re: Eggs not dimpling - day 53
It's probably OK to cut them ifyou want. But not of my eggs always dimple before hatching. Try candling them and looking for movement. If they're still moving I wouldn't worry about it.

What is your temperature? I've mine that won't even dimple at day 60. Soon I realized that my temperature meter is fooling me. The correct temp was only 83F. I cut them on day 66 and they turned our fine...

They've been at 88-89F, definately as I check with a probe thermometre and a temp gun as well. Both read the same

At those temps your fine to cut the eggs on day 53
Re: Eggs not dimpling - day 53
Mine didn't hatch this year until days 56 and 59 (last year they pipped on day 53, so I was worried about them for a few days). I wouldn't say that the lack of dimpling on day 53 is really a concern unless the eggs are also discoloring or there is a lack of movement when candling. Good luck with them!
