Mouse gut bursts during feeding.
Just fed my bp the second hopper of the day (he was still hungry) and the gut of the mouse "sprung a leak" after he had coiled. I'm letting him eat it anyways, and then I'm going to have to clean that part of the enclosure tomorrow morning. Just wondering if this is something common, because it's the first time it's happened to me...
Re: Mouse gut bursts during feeding.
Yeah, it happens sometimes.
Re: Mouse gut bursts during feeding.
Let the mouse thaw out to room temp first, then put in hot water and blow dry the head.

Thanks, I'll do that in the future :) (It's a bit late now lol)

Hi,
I just let them thaw and then blast the head with a hairdrier - for some reason mine don't seem to like wet prey the fussy beggars.

I keep mine in a bag when I put it in the hot water.
Re: Mouse gut bursts during feeding.
Yepp this has happened to be before.
I think it can be caused from thawing out the rodent too quickly in water that is too hot.
Re: Mouse gut bursts during feeding.
it happened once with a f/t dry mouse with my BP and happens alot with my fresh killed retics
Re: Mouse gut bursts during feeding.
Pretty much only happens when I forget about the mice and let them overheat. The worst is when... no, you know, I won't talk about that. ;)
Re: Mouse gut bursts during feeding.
I find it happens most often with poorly frozen rodents or ones that have been in the freezer too long without being used.
I find snakes do an amazing job of cleaning up all the 'fixins' and side dishes.. lol.
