feeding?

i buy one mouse on feeding day for my bp, and the only pet store i can go to who sell them only by singles only sell them live. so if i wanted to feed them to my bp frozen and i stick the mouse in the freezer does it take away some of the nutrients from the mouse or should i just try feedin live mice?

I think live your just supposed to pre kill it before you feed him, frozen thawed come in packages. Im still fairly new to this so hopefully someone can tell you how to pre kill.

Freezing rodents doesn't take away nutrients until they've been in the freezer for a really long time. I'm not sure of the exact length, but it take like 6+ months to start losing nutrients.


And you don't have to pre kill to feed live. You certainly can, but you don't have to. The snake can take care of that, but if they're used to FT they may not take a live mouse.

I buy live mice and prekill them (so they won't bite my snake) and she takes them just fine. I wouldn't waste time throwing live mice in a freezer because then you'd just have to thaw them out.

I'm sure lots of ppl on this site will tell you lots of ways to take care of the mouse, but here's what i prefer:

I kill the mouse RIGHT BEFORE I offer it to my bp, that way it's still warm (sounds gross I know). I prefer the "swift blow to the head" method over CO2, but you can be technical and put a pensil/screwdriver (etc) at the base of it's neck and swiftly pull the tail up and back (same time) to break it's neck. I just hit them in the head with a blunt object...they never feel a thing, know it's coming, or suffocate (as with CO2, though ppl say it puts them to sleep first).

I read that bps CAN NOT DIGEST COOKED FOOD. Aka if you're gonna get frozen mice, be sure when thawing that they don't get to too hot and start to cook. This is another reason I buy live and prekill.

The most humanr eay people would say to prekill is to gas or more technically CO2 the mice in a container if you wilk so they die of suffocation. Other people put pressure on the back of the neck and swiftly pull the tail and seperate the spine from head/brain. And the worse way ive heard is people just swing and knock the animal against a hard surface to give it massive brain trauma.
