Trouble getting temps right

I just purchased a zoo-med repti therm uth and installed it per instructions with a zoo-med repti-temp rheostat (which is set at the lowest setting). On the warm side I have got the temp to a constant 92 degrees on top of the bedding and it is 98 degrees at the very bottom (approx 3 inches of bedding) so I believe that is okay. On the cool side though my temp is at 89 degrees because of the CHE lamp but without it is dropping down to 78 degrees. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to fix this. I am using a digital gauge to check the temos and also have a Flukers thermo-hygrometer. My ambiant temp is at 86 degrees. Any help would be appreciated. (BTW it is a 10 gallon glass tank that is being used)

The temp should be 90-94 on the glass of the warm side. The snake will go down to the glass and will get burnt at 98 degrees. 78 is a little low but it should be okay because if the snake gets cold then he can go to the warm side. I would lose the lamp!

ur temp eeds to be 92 on the bottom of ur bedding or else u can burn ur snake or even worse, where do u have ur probe for the thermostat?? the UTH will not heat the entire enclosure, just the warm spot and maybe a lil of the hot side. if it is cold in the room then the cold side will be room temp so if it is too cold u will have to insulate or use a lamp

I have the probe at the bottom of the tank under the bedding, my house cools down to 74 at night, during the day he is by a window so he gets natural light and heat that way. I have the rheostat set at the lowest setting it will go down to so i don't know of any way to get the temp lower on that side. Should I just not use the UTH and use the CHE lamp? I am trying to do everything that it says to do on here but it doesn't seem to want to work out! :confused:

you could cover part of your a/c vent to your room

Your quickly finding out rheostats SUCK unless the rooms temperature is fairly stable.

78 is fine for the cool end ambient, ditch the light.
The warm end should be 86-88 degrees.
90 to 94 is too hot for ambient air temp but perfect for the uth temp on the bottom of the enclosure.
