    To those who cut...
When you guys cut them how long does it usually take for them to leave the egg? I'm just curious because I want to let my next clutch pip on their own, but was thinking about cutting depending on the answers to this question. The last clutch I cut it took them 8 days until the last one left, and 7 days for the rest. Just wondering if thats the norm if you cut. I'd imagine if they pipped on their own it would be a faster process. When I cut they had no interest in poking their heads through the goo, but if they pip on their own they kinda have no choice but to leave at some point soon after. How does it usually work?

cutting doesn't have a big effect when they leave the egg. it's when you cut (at what day) determines how long before they leave the egg. if you cut at day 10 and you cut at day 50 it's gonna take the day 10 eggs 30 days longer to come out than day 40. (day 10 was just an example) I don't cut on day 10. The main thing is, when ever you cut the eggs, you don't want the hatchlings to leave the egg until they absorb all of their yolk. and if you mess with them too much, you can scare one out before it should of left. this can cause problems that could of been avoided. yes, when they pip you can look at them, everyone does, but the more they are left alone the better off they are. they will be out in a few days after they pip anyway. good luck with your clutch, don

Tomorrow will be day 54. They've been incubated at 88-90. Last time I cut on day 58. Is it common for them to sit in the egg for 7+ days?

    Hmm, maybe I will cut...:evileye:

Last time I made a big cut, this time I won't. I wonder if that had anything to do with it.

when they pip it means they are soon ready to leave the eggshell. usually within 24hrs they leave on their own....sometimes....you have some that are lazy and take longer....and sometimes you have to intervene to insure they exit safely as they could have some sort of issue preventing them to leave.

all depends on how soon they absorb their yolk. once i have a clutch that has been cut open i check daily on their status. if i find one that has absorbed it's yolk fully i remove it from it's eggshell....and so on. once they are all out they all move together as a group to another tub until they have their first shed.

if they are lazy and the embryonic fluid begins to sour, i also remove them from the eggshell.
