    Hi, New Snake Owner!
    Hi everyone,

I just got a ball python a month ago and adopted a corn snake last week. This site has helped me so much so far. So much stuff I never knew. My family had snakes when I was younger but they weren't well taken care of and died from mites I think. Now I just got done serving 4 years in the Marine Corps and now I have a lot of time on my hands and I have been educating myself as much as I possibly can about these snakes. I've been keeping records as well, but just how detailed should I keep them? For example, I log; Date, Time, Humidity/Temps for whatever activity the snakes are doing. I at least everyday log what side the snake is on, hot or cool. Is there anything else I should log or am I being too tedious? Thanks for all the information everyone here has provided and thank you ahead of time for any responses. -Bruce

ALSO any beginner pointers I will gladly welcome.

With over 70 snakes at present, I log the following:

    Feeding
    Opaque
    Shed

    That's all.

If you have a single animal as a pet, it's also a good idea to log urates and defecations, in case any health issues arise.

Simple... just log when there's scat, shedding, & feeding

    Hello, and :welcome: to BP.net...

I just retired from the Marine Corps :salute:

    I track:
-Feedings: prey, size/weight, live/frozen, consumed or not.
    -defecations
    -sheds
    -snakes weight/ length
    -any health issues

I use my own tracking sheets and also I keep track of everything online at iHerp.com...

I didnt think logging defacation was important. Though i do log feedings; live or f/t, size, consumed or not, random weighings, and shedding.

Id say ur being a bit tedious, you will do just fine though, not to worry. Also, Welcome to the forums!

Ya, I wasn't sure exactly what I should be logging so I wrote anything I could at least once a day. I figured better too much than not enough. Thanks again for the help and the welcomes!
