Things make a lot more sense when you are IN the show...

So, this weekend I went to my first reptile show. It was the Los Angeles Reptile Super Show and it was kind of amazing in that up until Saturday I had only ever seen pastels and normals. So, I saw a lot of really cool snakes (the most amazing one was probably a Desert), and generally got exposed to some really awesome herps. There were some really really really scary geckos there that are going to give me nightmares but everything was dandy. My one goal was to not walk out of there with anything, but for some really bad reason I took cash with me.

I had a lot of "almost" purchases. You know, when you are in that setting you convince yourself that "yeah chameleons aren't THAT hard to take care of," especially when the seller is giving you the complete setup for a steal and telling you to just google it. Haha, luckily I had enough sense to escape without a cham AND a golden greek tort which I came dangerously close to purchasing. I had researched them for a bit before this weekend, but I don't think I'm anywhere near buying one.

So, I was almost out when I came across the corn snakes. I was convinced that my first snake was going to be a Blizzard Corn but I could never find one, and here they were all nestled up into a nice transparent ball. Plus, they were selling them with a 20L, heat pad, bowl, hide, branch and substrate PLUS the snake for $75. My cousin of course talked them down to $65 without trying much so out I walked with a new snake.

It made perfect sense then. Now, I'm kind of freaked out. I just got my first snake a week ago which is a pastel ball python (who I finally got to eat woot woot) and now I have a corn snake. I'm leaving back to college mid-September so I'm going to have to lay low for a bit when it comes to my parents. Haha, that's not even factoring in the NARBC in Anaheim this September.

My mom is actually in Europe right now WITH my camera so I'll post pictures when she gets back. It could have been worse I guess, the tort or a tegu probably would have gotten me moved into the garage, but maybe they won't notice a little ol' corn snake. :P

I've also just remembered that the one thing I did intend on buying (crested gecko food) I forgot. Hmm.

Don't worry, corn snakes are usually much easier to feed than ball pythons.

boy, you weren't kidding. I offered him a pinkie today just to see if he'd take it and it was gone really fast, it was actually really cool to just have him take it on his own, because I have to do a little song and dance for the ball python to eat, haha. Corn snakes are a lot skinnier, and maybe a little less cute, but you gotta love their simplicity.
