Hatchling Rack out of this?
I saw this at Target and thought it might make a cheap hatchling rack. Each drawer also has a lid on it so reptiles like ball python babies and such can't escape. (though I suspect colubrid babies could) The only issue I might see with it is that the height of each drawer is only about 2 inches or so. You could easily heat the rack by attaching heat tape to some sort of backing and then attack the backing to the unit.
Any thoughts on this idea?

Re: Hatchling Rack out of this?
i looked at these also but the gap if you look up into it is big enough for a young bp to to escape and to me thats not worth the problem might be good for a feeding rack small and movable
Re: Hatchling Rack out of this?
The sides have gaps, not a good idea
Re: Hatchling Rack out of this?
the tubs have lids on them though. Baby ball pythons would not be able to push those up really.
Re: Hatchling Rack out of this?
Well you definitely can't beat the price so if you can make it work that'd be sweet. You should give it a shot and let us know if it works or not:gj:
Re: Hatchling Rack out of this?
they all have gaps. Their not made to be tightly closed since its storage.
Wouldnt risk it with snakes. More hassle looking for escaped ones rather knowing their safe in proper racks.
Re: Hatchling Rack out of this?
do you need to worry about the gap because it says this on the site
Removable, each acid-free drawer doubles as a handy carrying case
Re: Hatchling Rack out of this?
I am going to have to go into the store and take a closer look. Normally with this manufacturer, there are big gaps. Being a "carrying case" as well, it might work.:weirdface
Re: Hatchling Rack out of this?
There are gaps between the drawers but I tested how much the lid could be pushed up when closed with the drawer pushed in and I couldn't even get my finger into the drawer. I don't think a ball python baby would be able to slip out of it. I'll have to get one this week and take a few pictures of it and at least try it out. If anything, if it doesn't work, I can always use it for mealworms.
Re: Hatchling Rack out of this?
I was at hobby lobby yesterday and they had one like this by iris for $60. It looks like itll work since the lid is hinged on there and there is a snap lock on the front. I dont see how they would get out.
