Help Identifying sable morph...
Hello all, I recently recieved a ball python from a friend that no longer breeds his snakes. He bought her as a sable and never had a chance to prove her out to be just that. Anyway I have spoke with several people as to what she could be and some said she looks like a low quality sable or even possibly a choclate. I was told sable usually have a checkered belly and a silver to there eye. She has both but I am still not sure.
Any help from all of you out there would be great thanks...J

Also she recently started losing pigment in the scales on her head, turning lighter color. Does anyone know the cause of this. Thanks in advance...J
Re: Help Identifying sable morph...
Any help from the sable owners... This is a really hard morph to identify for me... Thanks
Re: Help Identifying sable morph...
A Sable should be darker than this snake which is also an adult ball python. This snake has a normal colour and pattern and also a good amount of blushing, so I say it's not a sable. Who sold this animal to your friend?
About tha scales on the head....did this snake lose them after a shed?
Re: Help Identifying sable morph...
to me it looks like a pastel then agian i am not that knowlegable about them
Re: Help Identifying sable morph...
Looks normal.sables have a darker smashed up pattern down the sides and are generally darker.

Nope - not even remotely like a pastel. :)

She was sold to my friend as a sable or even a possible chocolate. I just noticed she was a very nice looking normal if nothing else so I talked with him about her. At the end of our talk he offered her to me for $40.00 and I couldnt say no.
As far as the scales on her head... After her last shed she had 1 scale on her head that was tan. After about 3 weeks now quite a few of the sacles have turned tan. I have checked everything.
I keep all my snakes in a ARS rack and temps and humidity are spot on. Just strange cause I have another ball that is doing this also. Dont really know the cause of the scales lossing pigment... Thanks in advance J

Well you have your answer. No one would sell and adult sable for $40.
Its just a normal.
Re: Help Identifying sable morph...
All the blushing is like a browned out pastel but I think it's just a really nice looking normal!
