Ask how many times it's eaten, how old it is, what it's feeding on. When you see the snake, check the belly for burn marks or belly rot, the mouth for any sign of mucus or redness, and the hide for bite marks or scars. Check for mites(tiny black specks that are bugs like fleas for reptiles).

If the person bred the baby himself, ask how many were in the clutch. If he bought it, ask where he bought it from.

    Hope this helps.

Also you should ask to see it eat a meal if possible!

Feel it's belly for sure. Make sure it's not soft.

Very cute 0.0 ball python in your sig.

Others have already mentioned what to look for. I just wanted to stress (as I always do in these posts) that once you get a snake (this one or any other), have a vet already chosen, preferably a reptile specialist. What you'll want to do is make an appointment and have the snake checked out fully within a few days. You can ask them to sex (probe) it, however, many will refuse when they are still small.
