Bp and pregnant women

Ok so I want a snake and my wife is pregnant is it safe to have around her... Thanks

or course.... I wouldnt let her touch it in case of salmanela but these guys are harmless to any prego!

Yes it's safe. A ball python can't hurt you or your wife. If she is nervous though I wouldn't allow the snake to be around her, she could hurt herself or the animal.

Thanks that's what I was worried about

how many snakes have salmonella?, buy a snake form a breeder and don't worry about it, yes their safe.

Naw she not afraid of snakes she love the ball I had before I gave it to my buddy to breed

Even if it stresses her out because she was afraid of them, stress has no "special" effects on pregnant women, so you're safe in that department. The only card stress plays in pregnancy is after 5-6 months, and then the risk of a pre-term labor is noteworthy.
Most people, except those who are immunocompromised, recover quickly from salmonella infections in 4-7 days. In rare cases, diarrhea may cause severe enough dehydration that a person will need to go to the E.R. and get IV fluids.
142,000 people are infected with salmonella per year, and only about 30 die. These are mostly, as stated above, the immunocompromised, but also the elderly and infants.
Those are the only two things I could see negatively affecting your wife. It should be completely fine to house a snake while she is pregnant. However, when the baby is born, I would NOT handle the snake right before touching the baby, even for only a brief moment--and regardless of that, wash your hands a lot, and keep the baby away from the snake, and vice versa. Infections are more likely to kill an infant, as their immune systems are nowhere near strong enough to fend off most infections.

I'm not sure of an exact number, however I do know that salmonella is FAR more common in aquatic species such as turtles than it is in snakes.
Also, a good deal of cases of salmonellosis are from improperly cooked or unclean food, excretions from sick people or animals, polluted water (surface or standing), and chicken eggs.
S. typhi is a serious infection, but is adapted and only transmitted by humans, so your snake will not carry that.

Snakes may carry salmonella, but the risk from uncooked chicken is MUCH higher.

Just wash hands after handling the snake. Simple.

Obviously, don't let the baby touch the snake, because they put everything in their mouth, and may get their fingers in there before you can clean them. lol

(I'm a mom of 2, and had snakes while pregnant as well).

Totally safe...my wife has had two children since I've gotten into snakes.
