Tub sizes?

Seeing as I know the tub sizes for corn snakes and know that BPs aren't corns, I could use some help with this. So Pet Supermarket has like, a dozen or so BPs in and I checked them out. Small guys (can curl up in a young lady's hand easily :P ), but they look good. So, when I decide to haggle for the two corn snakes and a rat snake they've had for months, I'll probably go for a BP or two. However, I'd like to put them in the right size tub.

I know BPs are rather lazy, and I know they're shy and don't like really open cages. So I'm wondering, for young BPs that are around 12 inches at the most, what's a good size tub? A rule of thumb (such as a tub with a perimeter the same as the snake's length) is also helpful for when I need to upgrade.

I know most epoepl start them out in a 6-12 q tub until about 500 grams or so then move up to next size.

Now I personally have had great success just going with a straight 40 qt tub (when I can find them when can't a 34 qt tub) cause by thetime I add some junk to clutter it up and every thing they feel safe enough and eat pretty good. ( i then slowly remove the items until there is noting left as long as they keep eating unti lthe tubs got just a a water bowl and a hide ( if they fit into it )

I have a baby butter set up in a 6qt. It seems huge to her right now. I would say she is about 12in long.

This is a good question, I was wondering the same thing. I have some in a 16qt and I'm wondering what size/weight should they be before I move them to a 32qt? Also what size/weight to go from a 6qt to a 16qt.

Yeah, 6qt. tub would be good to start them in. I used 15qt. tubs and had no problems, and they are still in them.

6 qt up to 300ish grams
15 qt up to 1000ish grams
32 qt 1000+ grams

I say ish because it depends on the snake. If they are a stubborn feeder they'll stay in the smaller tub until they eat well for me.

One thing with adult sizes. Is it preferred to use a 32qt size-ish tub or 40qt size-ish? Or does it matter if the BP is male or female (since females get 1-2 ft longer, from my understanding)?

Males can live in a 32 quart as adults but females should have a 41 quart! I have all my adults in 41 quart. I start mine in a 6 quart until about 200 grams then move to a 12 quart until about 400 grams then I go straight to a 41 quart and had no feeding issuses! That's what has worked for me!

ok i have my adult females in a 32 qt tub and they are just fine and i have also messed aroun with the 41 qt i would use tops cause my rack without tops warp from the heat but the ones i have tops on do not
