Feeding Young BP how much is too much?
Okay so Noir, my granite ball python.

I fixed that humidity problem by putting in coconut husk bedding and that holds the humidity at 50% with daily misting. When he was in shed I just took half the bedding and soaked it in the sink and then put it back in. That stuff is crazy absorbant and kept the humidity at 88% for a week. I didn't really worry about having too much wet stuff coz my bedding is a good 3 inches deep and i only got the first layer wet.

So the shed went well after doing that and he pooped a few times.

I got a question about feeding. He's like around 20 inches long now and about an inch and a half thick. Lately when I feed him a fuzzy he swallows it down really fast and rather than go to his hide to lay down he'll spend the next several hours looking for more and would even start prowling around the next day too. A month ago he would eat one and then curl up in his hide and i wouldnt see him for a good few days after...

So I assumed it wasnt enough for him so I went ahead and fed him two more fuzzies (the remaining fuzzies in the bag were really small.. not much bigger than a pinky) I fed him one and he continued the behavior so I fed him the second and he took that one and returned to his hide. And then the next week he pulls the same thing so I feed him two. And then this week he pulls that same stuff again so I'm wondering. If he's greedily eating and isnt looking super engorged after eating.. is it time to move up to hoppers? And if he's eating like crazy and acting hungry alot after one fuzzy/hopper would it be too much food to give him a second?

Also he eats like a champ. He goes on the prowl the second I start thawing the mouse.. and I dont even do it near his tank I thaw the mouse in the kitchen and when I come to his tank hes curled up at the top of his rock with his neck in the S shape flicking his tongue around waiting for food. And thats the only time he ever climbs lol, otherwise he prefers to lay around in his fake plants or curl up in his fake tree stump roots.

    Hi,

I start my hatchlings on hoppers so yeah he should be able to handle small mice at 20 inches.

Just to be certain weigh him and weigh one of the hoppers - you're looking for the food to be around 10-15% of his weight and about the same size around as he is at his thickest point. :gj:
