    Killing mites
i just used PAM on the viv of my new baby ball. got her at a recent expo and she came home with mites. I was curious to know if PAM not only kills the mites and thier eggs in the viv, but also the ones on my snake as well. I have done my best to soak her and drown the mites, but no luck. Any other helpful suggestions would be much appreciated.

PAM (only treat the enclosure, and make sure it's totally dry before putting the animal back in!) will kill all mites. Nothing kills eggs, but PAM will last in the enclosure long enough to kill any mites that hatch from existing eggs!

So, within a matter of a day or two, you should see no mites, and they'll be gone for good.

Just be sure to treat any other nearby enclosures, and spray a strip around the doorway if it's a quarantine room.

PAM will eradicates mites including the ones found on your BP, all you have to do is place your BP back in his enclosure (following the directions).

its not a quarantine room, but she is in a separate room from my beardie. i have been very cautious not to cross handle them and spread them around. i dont want to treat my beardies viv with PAM unless i absolutely have too.

like i said up there. i treated my viv with a light coat of pam, and all furniture(exept water bowl). i had the viv and furniture drying under a fan for over an hour, there were no fumes and everything was dry. I put my BP back in her viv, i know i followed directions too a T, but i still cant help but be worried about her!!

I just found mites on 2 of my BP's. I have no idea how she got them. Maybe I brought them home from a show last month. I've never had mites before in 14 years of keeping snakes. UGH!

Just ordered some PAM. Hopefully it'll get here soon.

PAM worked GREAT for me. I treated the cage once, and two days later there were no mites in the enclosure or on my BP. Its been about a week now, and still no mites!! Thats the first time I have used PAM and I will never use anything else. EXCELENT STUFF!

    Nix kills eggs.
Do a search, you'll find everything you'll need to know about it.

My PAM came in the mail yesterday and I treated a quarantine tank and all of the tubs in my rack today. I sure hope this works.

And thinking back, I think I may have picked up some mites from a filthy pet store that I visited about a month ago. The timing is right, when I think back. 14 years with no mites -> nasty pet store -> mites.

Even though the active ingredient in both is the same, the inerts may not be and that can cause a reaction in reptiles. If you want to go that way any aerosol made for bedbugs kills mites 100% and 90% of all eggs. Only way to kill any arthropod egg 100% would be to fumigate. PAM is a great product and if available is the easiest way to treat.
