News Story... Bad Editing...
Here is a story that one of the news stations did about the high number of Copperhead bites in North Carolina. They interviewed 2 guys. One, who was bitten by a Copperhead and another guy from one of the pet stores. Now these guys are talking about Copperheads, but the video footage edited in is all Ball Pythons, Cornsnakes, and I think a Rat Snake from the pet store and a couple of photos of Copperheads. The way it was done would make the average person think that these were the venomous, dangerous snakes... Editing Fail...

Re: News Story... Bad Editing...
aww but the ball pythons were so adorable!!
Re: News Story... Bad Editing...
They probably couldn't find any copperheads for the video shoot, and so rather than go snake-less they just had random snake pictures. Not that it is excusable, but that's probably why.
Re: News Story... Bad Editing...
Another reason to hate North Carolina, hahaha.
Re: News Story... Bad Editing...
I'm sure many people know that those were not copperheads.... Its a common snake in this part of the south east. Also they said that the pet store the young guy worked in sold other snakes that were not copperheads.....
Re: News Story... Bad Editing...
my thing is, although they said "these are not dangerous snakes"...why even show a ball python, or any other harmeless snake for that matter, when discussing copperheads. i mean, really! thats giving all those harmless snakes a bad rap by putting them on tv right along with examples and stories of the bad ones. people walking by a ball python cage in a pet store are gonna be like "i remember seeing one of those on tv...when they were talking about copperheads."
it's flippin' pathetic!
i hate the media...this is why i dont watch news. i get my news off yahoo.com and even then its still all negative stuff, of course.
Re: News Story... Bad Editing...
I think people are over-reacting here and being a bit over-dramatic.
I watched the video and I found nothing mis-leading about the editing. They were clearly in a pet store, and the snakes were clearly in display tanks in that pet store - they even said that the pet store sold snakes that were NOT copperheads.
I understand that we're sensitive about news stories about our beloved animals, but we don't need to knee jerk react to every single one of them, especially one as benign as this one is.

totally agree, thats why I said that they mentioned that the snakes in the pet store with the college student were non venomous.
Was not misleading at all! :)
Re: News Story... Bad Editing...
I don't think it's a HORRIBLE story, but there really was no reason to show any other snakes. And there was definitely no reason to show other snakes THAT many times. I mean, it seemed like every few seconds they threw in a new clip of an irrelevant snake.
I'm glad they said they weren't dangerous, but people aren't as intelligent as we credit them to be. If a good percentage of them are already afraid of snakes, they're probably going to make a ball python - copperhead connection, whether conscious or not.
