It depends on how much your snake weighs. The general standard is to feed a prey item that is 10% to 15% of your snake's weight.

Just by saying 8 months old, isn't really anything helpful, and will only lead to people guessing.
You're snake could be really small for 8 months due to being under fed, or it could be rather large for 8 months due to power feeding. A little bit more information would be helpful.
