Building a rack, need spacing help
I am getting ready to screw together another rack system. My question is this. I can't figure out how much spacing I need. Prior I used CDs as spacers on my previous rack. I used 1 CD on my first one, it now binds up a bit as drawers pull out. Then on a smaller rack I used 2 stacked CDs. Now I am considering using 3 stacked CDs as spacers, would that be enough to allow yearling colubrids and adults to escape? I know melamine racks sag with age and I want to allow for that but not allow escapes. This is rather frustrating and I would just buy a rack but I am on a severe budget and already have the wood cut and ready.

i would think 3 cds would be enough for colubrids to escape depending on the colubrid though. i think it would be fine for bps though. maybe try the 3 on one shelf and puta hatchling in it and see how it goes.....

    well,goodluck.

Why not just measure the depth you need from the tubs (I am guessing you are talking about spaces for the sides where the tubs slide in) and just add a specific amount (1/8th inch or 3/16ths) then use that, possibly using the tubs themselves to use to build it, or just measure it accurately.

I mean opening size, top to bottom of the shelf. To allow room for the tub to slide in and out. You cant just use the tub. As the rack sits there a week or so it sags a bit, also you have to account for the heat tape under the tub etc. If you just use the tub itself, in 2 weeks it will be binding and not slide in at all.
