switching from mice to small rats...

im considering making a switch today from mice to small rats. my girl is a very very very good eater so im hoping the switch with go without a problem. i was wondering if anyone has any tips for switching that can make it a better possibility of success... thanks guys

I recently made the switch successfully. It will depend on your snake and how long she has been eating mice. Have you been feeding live or f/t. Just be persistant. If she is hungry enough she will recognize the rat as food. You may have to do live to get her started on the rats if you were doing f/t with mice. Good luck

Just switched Furio from mice to rats. Took less than a minute for him to grab the rat. I feed live though.

I recently made the switch with my bigger BP who I felt was more than ready. I kind of used the pre-scenting technique that I was told about here on the site. Since I was going to be feeding my other BP also (who is still eating large mice) I had the mouse thawed and placed next to the tub that I feed in so I gave her the chance to pick up on the scent of a mouse for a while...then I took the thawed rat and dangled it in front of her inside the tub with the tongs and she nailed it...at first she let it go almost right away and I thought that I was going to have issues but I gave her some "alone" time and when I came back, she had it down and gone:D.

i feed my girl live mice (2) every five days but it seems like shes not satisfied cuz theyre only small ones and id rather switch to small rats then big mice. shes almost 500 grams and around 2.5 feet. as im typing this im wondering if one small rat would not be enough and i dont think it wont be. what size rat is a about 50 grams? small or medium?
