Meet Tiki - My new Rose Hair !
Just picked this beauty up this afternoon, I am normaly scared to death of spiders...especialy huge hairy ones like Tiki, lol.
But I do love animals and even put my hand in the cage a couple times to adjust the water dish and the hide, I kept an eye on it but wasnt to worried. Now that I have her / him home I find myself unable to stop looking and watching, the way it moves and checks things out. They are so gentle with their movements.
But I do think I didnt let the substrate dry out enough because she is pressed up against the glass and I see a little bit of the wood hut soaking up some moisture. I let it sit for an hour and stirred it up with a blow dryer on it, but I think its still to wet. Shouldnt take to long to dry out I think.

The paper towel is from the container I brought it home in, I took it out.

Once I get used to caring for a T and learn the do's and dont's, and know for sure I am doing things right, I plan on getting another one. I NEVER seen myself having a giant hairy spider as a pet, but she is one beautiful animal and the more I watch and read I realize they arent so bad.
This forum has been a big help too in making the decision a little easier, I really learned alot here and am very happy I made the choice to get one. :gj:

Very nice! Tarantulas really grow on you if you just give em a chance. I just got my second one a couple weeks ago, they're a lot of fun.

Awesome new addition!!! Congrats!!! The substrate is pretty damp though. If she is climbing the glass or standing on her hide that is why. Good luck with her!!!

Yeah, I took it outside but with the humidity today it wasnt going to dry so I brought it in and used a blow dryer on it for about 20 minutes while mixing it up. My apartment is really dry, so I hope it helps...if its not dry enough by tomorrow should I take her out and dry it out some more or just wait it out ?

There is always a big debate with rose hairs and humidity. The general rule of thumb is substrate dry though. Some people mist there substrate, not the T and have no problems. If she is not climbing the walls or standing on her hide to get away from the damp substrate and you think it will dry out pretty fast then you could probably just leave her on it. Just watch her and use your best judgement. I use the coco fiber substrate myself and it is a BIG pain to dry it out. I just started buying it already dried out in a bag which is a hundred times eaiser. It is probably more cost effect to buy it in a brick and add the water and dry it out yourself but it just takes too long.

I think I will get the dried stuff next time, would be worth the extra few bucks. I will probably have to continue drying it out tomorrow, but I will let it sit over night and see what happens.
