Rodent control?

From what I gather after reading most of the posts on this site, alot of keepers find it easier to breed their own feeders. My question is wether you all are able to "control" your populations once you get them established? Everything that I have ever read about rats says that they can produce offspring like no body's business! Not trying to judge or call anyone out but do you all end up with mouse or rat infestation problems in your home? My wife would freak out big time:O:O!! Im trying to decide on continuing to purchase frozen or breed my own. Thanks!:cool:

They're not exactly like Tribbles (geeky Star Trek reference). Ideally you will have more than one cage and can regulate how often you pair up the male with the female(s). All of your cages should be enclosed so you shouldn't have to worry about an infestation of rats or mice running around your home. ;)

cycle breeding groups..when you know you're going to need more rats to feed breed more groups, when it looks like feeding is slacking off stop pairing groups.. Pretty easy..till you get 100 some out groups..Yea mis-sex one male rat and look out!!

I have been able to keep mine under control by removing all weaned pups and separating the males and females. I agree to double check that you haven't missed a male as they can breed at 5 wks old.
