Excavator Substrate

Has anybody used this stuff? I'm wondering if it actually works. Thanks :)

Its better suited for burrowing/digging lizards, not snakes.

I used to use it for my Savannah monitor, but it gets expensive very fast. And Rich is right, it would not be very good for snakes.

I was thinking about making some tunnels with it in the front of my king's cage, but having his regular substrate on top of it, or just using it to make some cool landscape in some of my other cages. Does it hold water?

If you mean to try and make a water dish out of it, no, but as in humidity, extremely well. It does need misting once in awhile, but not as often as other substrates. The only reason I say it wouldn't be good for snakes is because the very top of it gets a little bit "sandy" like, I would just worry about it getting under the scales. If you have leopard or crested geckos, I think it would make an awesome set up for them. It will mold to any shape or hill, and as high as you want it, so it is cool to work with, but when you are filling a Savannah monitor's cage with it, it is way too expensive to keep up with.

I actually wouldnt recommend this for smaller geckos like Leos or cresties due to their eating habits. Chasing crickets and so on around could result in a miss and a mouth full of that stuff. Being their soo small they impact easier than larger lizards would.
